Certificate in Theory of Accounting (CTA)

CTA is a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA or honours equivalent). This is a postgraduate course focusing on Accounting, Auditing, Taxation and Financial Management. It takes a one year to complete on a full-time basis and two years on a part-time basis. The course is designed for professionals intending to upskill on their financial reporting, auditing, financial management and taxation competences OR students intending to pursue the chartered accountancy profession.

BCTA Entry Requirements

 
  • An accounting degree or ACCA Strategic Professional Certificate or Chartered Governance Professional qualification (formerly CIS), which is more than 5 years old or;
  • An accounting degree with a degree class of 3
  • An Accounting related degree from the faculty of commerce which covers at least 2 of the 4 CTA modules, i.e (management accounting, financial accounting, taxation and auditing)

CTA Full Time Entry Requirements
  • An Accounting degree with a degree class of 2.2 or better or;
  • Chartered Governance Professional qualification (formerly CIS) or;
  • ACCA Strategic Professional Certificate
  • Master’s in accounting or;
  • The CAA BCTA qualification
  • The qualification must have been attained within the last 3 years

CTA Part Time 1 Entry Requirements

 
  • An Accounting degree with a degree class of 2.2 or better or;
  • Chartered Governance Professional qualification (formerly CIS) or;
  • ACCA Strategic Professional Certificate
  • Master’s in accounting or;
  • The CAA BCTA certificate
  • The qualification must have been attained within the last 5 years.

CTA Part Time 2 Entry Requirements

 
  • A complete CTA Level 1 qualification (from any ICAZ or SAICA accredited institution)
  • SAICA accredited Bcompt in Accounting with a Cum Laude
  • ICAZ/SAICA accredited CTA bridging course
  • The CAA BCTA program passed with 12 distinctions.
  • The qualification must have been attained within the last 5 years
